Hair Mineral Analysis

A lab is offering a Canine Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. As an experiment, I submitted a sample from one of my dogs. The analysis makes for interesting reading.

As I feed my dogs a homecooked diet (previously reviewed by a nutritionalist) I was interested in what the analysis would reveal about the calcium / phosphorus ratio. Ideally it should be 1:1. According to the lab, my dog's calcium level is lower than her phosphorus level. Also interesting is that her iron level is low and the selenium level is high. (I wonder if the iron level is low because my bitch recently came into season?) Also interestingly, the arsenic, mercury, and aluminum levels ... while within acceptable levels ... were measurable. I wonder about the source of these minerals in my dogs' diet.
