Privacy considerations in DNA sequencing

There are several privacy considerations that owners of canines should be aware if they are thinking of having their dog's DNA sequenced and giving permission for the results to be made public.

1. DNA sequence data may inadvertently indicate a disease state currently unknown. (For example, see Hip Dysplasia and SNP Markers)

2. DNA sequence data can be used in forensic criminal investigations.

3. DNA sequence data can be used to investigate canine genealogy.
